<p><strong>Posting Note:</strong> The Division of Hematology/Oncology at Phoenix Children&rsquo;s, seeks full time, board eligible/board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologists with an interest in any of the following areas; benign hematology, or immune deficiencies and WBC disorders, or Bone Marrow Failure syndromes. Experience in research and programmatic development would be of interest as we seek to develop our programs in these areas.<br><br>Responsibilities include clinical care, teaching, and participation in clinical research. The candidate will be an integral and interactive member of the Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and participate in inpatient and outpatient management of hematology patients.<br><br>Our Center is the major referral center in the Southwestern region with approximately 1500 new hematology patients per year. We currently have a large hematology patient population with close to 550 congenital bleeding disorder patients followed at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, over 325 sickle cell/thalassemia patients, and close to 150 new thrombosis patients per year. We currently have multi-disciplinary clinics for hemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell/thalassemia, and other chronically transfused patients with various diagnoses including bone marrow failure and RBC enzyme deficiencies. The hematology team is a multidisciplinary team, committed to providing state-of-the-art care to the patients of the Southwest. We also have active clinical and laboratory research programs, and multiple open clinical trials. This is a growing population and we are looking for someone who desires to continue to expand and develop this program.<br><br>Successful candidates must be board eligible/board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology and have an interest in hematology. Applicants should have the ability to work with teams on patient focused, division-centric, and hospital wide initiatives.</p>

<p><strong>About this role:</strong></p>
<p>As a Classical Hematology Physician, you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience. In this role you will diagnose and manage classical (non-malignant) hematologic conditions, provide inpatient consultative services, develop individualized treatment plans, longitudinal management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Participate in or lead clinical research initiatives in classical hematology and contribute to growing out the hematology program.</p>

<p>The program serves a diverse patient population, providing a range of treatment options including stem cell transplantation, BiTE, and CAR-T therapy. This service is 24/7, and we are hiring across multiple (12hr) shifts (<strong>daytime, nocturnist,&nbsp;</strong>and<strong>&nbsp;mixed&nbsp;</strong>schedule opportunities are available).</p>
<p>Advanced practice providers work closely with physicians in a shared practice model. APPs provide care for patients throughout the course of their illness and are involved in initial treatment planning and counseling, assessments, supportive care during chemotherapy treatment, and surveillance and follow-up care after completion of treatment. In addition to working collaboratively with physicians, they play an integral role in coordinating care with other subspecialties, including radiation oncology and surgical oncology. The cancer center includes an active cancer clinical trials program and provides a full range of supportive services, including social work, palliative care, nutrition support, genetic counseling, and patient navigation.</p>
<p>This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join a collaborative and supportive APP/MD team practice that provides care for patients with hematologic diagnoses who are admitted to the hospital due to complications of their malignancy, complications of their treatment, for palliative care, or for chemotherapy. Common cancer diagnoses are lymphoma, leukemia, and MDS. In addition to treating patients with chemotherapy or on clinical trials, the team manages acute medical problems such as neutropenic fever, nausea and vomiting, pain management, and other acute medical diagnoses. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of cancer care including initial diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, management of complications/acute medical issues, and palliative care.</p>
<p>The position is 100% clinical. The typical morning consists of pre-rounding on patients followed by rounds with the attending physician. In the afternoon, the APP carries out the plan of care for patients, consults with other services as indicated, admits and discharges patients, and performs procedures (including bone marrow biopsy). The ideal candidate is motivated, self-directed, compassionate, enthusiastic and committed to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning. There are many opportunities for learning including teaching on rounds, weekly conferences, monthly staff meetings, and clinical care conferences.</p>
