The Division of Hematology-Oncology and the Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute seeks a highly skilled and compassionate physician with extensive experience in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of myeloid malignancy, including expertise in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). This position offers a leadership role in a growing and dynamic hematology program dedicated to clinical and translational research and exceptional patient care. The successful candidate will be considered for the directorship of the HSCT program.

Position Summary:

The Physician will provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including but not limited to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This includes overseeing all aspects of patient care, from initial diagnosis and treatment planning to follow-up and supportive care. A significant component of the role involves participation in the alloHSCT program, encompassing pre-transplant evaluation, conditioning regimen selection, transplant procedures, post-transplant management, and the management of complications.

Duties:

• Provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and ongoing management
• Perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating current best practices and clinical trial participation
• Participate actively in the alloHSCT program, including patient selection, pre-transplant conditioning, transplant procedure, post-transplant management, and complication management
• Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including clinical research personnel, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
• Participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives
• Adhere to all health system and hospital policies and procedures
• Participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned

• Significant experience in all aspects of alloHSCT

The ideal candidate will have translational clinical research experience and clinical expertise in the treatment and clinical research related to blood and marrow transplantation & cellular therapy for patients with hemoglobinopathies, inborn errors of immunity, and other non-malignant diseases, as well as independently obtained research funding. This position will help to further develop our BMT & CT Program’s basic/translational research programs to funnel new ideas from bench to bedside. This individual will also participate in the inpatient and outpatient clinical care of patients at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.

The Medical Hematologist/Oncologist will provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students. Practice clinical cancer medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities. Mayo Clinic is seeking a board certified / board eligible pediatric hematologist to join our growing team!  Mayo Clinic is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a federally designated Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center with 11 pediatric hematologist/oncologists, nine nurse practitioners, and eight specialty nurses.   While the division provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions, this role is specifically focused on non-malignant, classical pediatric hematology.

Our non-malignant hematology program provides multidisciplinary, longitudinal care for children with inherited and acquired blood disorders, with particular strengths in bleeding. and clotting, and bone marrow failure disorders. As a Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, we deliver integrated care for patients with hemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders, including access to a specialized lab for state-of-the-art testing, specialized nursing, physical therapy, social work, and care coordination services. In addition, our Vascular Malformation Clinic brings together hematology, interventional radiology, surgery, genetics, dermatology, and other specialties to provide coordinated evaluation and management of complex vascular anomalies.

This position is dedicated to the outpatient and inpatient care of children with non-malignant hematologic conditions within a highly collaborative practice. •  Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
•  Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). This clinic is both a St Jude affiliate as well as active COG site.
•  Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration, as needed.
•  Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
• Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
• 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship
•  MD/DO or equivalent

The MGB Division of Transfusion Medicine encompasses an FDA-licensed donor center, therapeutic apheresis, an outpatient transfusion/infusion clinic, a transfusion service, and progenitor cell collection and processing. The faculty member will assume leadership roles within the Division and serve as one of several Medical Directors responsible for a designated area of Transfusion Medicine that aligns with their expertise and interests. While on clinical service, all faculty members are responsible for providing direct patient care and participating in consults. Throughout all service activities, faculty members in the Transfusion Medicine division collaborate closely with clinical colleagues in bone marrow and solid organ transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, cardiac surgery, trauma and critical care, neurology, and pediatrics. The Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies Program provides comprehensive care for patients with hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, brain tumors, and non-malignant conditions. The Division also has a robust Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program in collaboration with the NCI-designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
