The Division of Blood and Vascular Disorders faculty serve as staff members for our robust non-malignant hematology programs, including the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center of Central Pennsylvania, Sickle Cell, and Benign Hematology programs. The role includes working in clinical teams with advanced practice providers and other staff, engaging in hematology research and education of learners in the fellowship, residency and medical school programs.

The Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute seeks a highly skilled and compassionate physician with extensive experience in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of myeloid malignancy, including expertise in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). This position offers a leadership role in a growing and dynamic hematology program dedicated to clinical and translational research and exceptional patient care. The successful candidate will be considered for the directorship of the HSCT program.

Position Summary:

The Physician will provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including but not limited to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This includes overseeing all aspects of patient care, from initial diagnosis and treatment planning to follow-up and supportive care. A significant component of the role involves participation in the alloHSCT program, encompassing pre-transplant evaluation, conditioning regimen selection, transplant procedures, post-transplant management, and the management of complications.

Duties:

• Provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and ongoing management

This position is dedicated to the outpatient and inpatient care of children with non-malignant hematologic conditions within a highly collaborative practice. All physicians in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology share responsibility for the inpatient care of children with blood disorders, cancer, and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at Mayo Clinic Hospital, while maintaining defined areas of clinical focus. Role Overview

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases invites applications for a Service Chief of Clinical Microbiology. The Clinical Microbiology Service currently consists of the Service Chief, two clinical microbiology faculty, three supervisors, and more than 45 technologists, technicians, and clerical personnel, and supports the Memorial Hospital and MSK regional sites located in New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island.  The Department and the Clinical Microbiology Service is committed to applied and translational research through active collaborations with internal and external scientists, clinicians, and industry experts to develop innovative laboratory methods and leverage advances in technology to improve patient care. Our faculty play a vital role in clinical research and clinical trials.  MSK provides diverse educational opportunities to develop further the skills and ambition of our scientists, laboratory directors, laboratory managers, medical technologist, and technicians. The Clinical Microbiology Service offers a two-year Clinical Microbiology Fellowship providing training for doctoral-level scientists interested in acquiring knowledge and skills necessary to direct a clinical microbiology laboratory.

Extensive experience in high complexity clinical lab/director functions in support of an academic medical center clinical services and translational programs is preferred. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Candidates are expected to develop a research program based on translational and collaborative research in specialties aligned with clinical pathology. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical: The position includes a clinical commitment to the Clinical Microbiology service at MSK. The service and its laboratories are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offer comprehensive testing in bacteriology, antimicrobial susceptibility, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, and infectious disease serology using both conventional methods and cutting-edge technologies such as real-time PCR, solid and liquid microarrays, nucleic acid sequencing, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The attending faculty members provide consultations on selection of diagnostic tests and interpretation of test results to all MSK clinical teams. The individual will be responsible for mentoring, directing, instructing, and supervising attendings, fellows, managers, supervisors, and technologists providing diagnostic service, advising, and consulting with clinical teams.

Research: Development of a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest leading to publication of results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals is a fundamental requirement of the position. Emphasis is on test method development relevant to cancer care. The successful applicant will obtain extramural funding and direct collaborative research with clinical colleagues across the institution. It is expected to develop collaborations with clinical staff to study and improve biomarker detection and analysis in cancer patients. Subspecialty training in method development and emerging modern technologies in the field of microbiology is preferred.

Teaching: The candidate will be participating in the training of Clinical Microbiology and Lab Medicine fellows and clinical pathology residents through lectures, clinical supervision and mentorship as well teaching of laboratory technologists and supervisors.

Service: MSK has a system of shared governance. Active participation in committees, professional organizations, continuing education, and other appropriate outlets is required. The department has a faculty mentoring program in which participation is expected.

This position will work within the USF Hemophilia Treatment Center, specializing in diagnosis, treatment, and management of bleeding disorders. Additionally, this position will have an opportunity to engage in FDA-approved gene therapy. Our center has its own 340B program that supports our wide range of patient care activities and staff, including RNs, NPs, Physical Therapists, social workers, and administrative staff. We have our own clinical research team that supports our clinical research activities.    

Additional academic responsibilities may include advising and mentoring students in the development of scholarly projects; assessing, reviewing, and evaluating student educational activities and progress; and serving on university-wide, medical school, and/or departmental committees.

Prefer: 1-3 years of physician experience with benign hematology. Previous experience in an academic medical center and proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research preferred. This position will serve as Director of Hematology and Medical Oncology for the Northwell Cancer Institute in Manhattan, reporting to the Deputy Physician-in-Chief of Medical Oncology for the Northwell Cancer Institute, and will also hold the role of Chief, Hematology & Medical Oncology at Lenox Hill Hospital, reporting to the Chair of Medicine.  The Director will oversee the clinical, research, educational and administrative pursuits of the Hematology & Medical Oncology program in Manhattan, which includes 15 Hematologic Oncologists, a fellowship program in hematology and medical oncology (two fellows per year) and a clinical team of nurses, ACPs, research staff, practice staff and supportive care professionals that help achieve excellence in comprehensive clinical care and research.

The Hematology & Medical Oncology program in Manhattan spans inpatient care at Lenox Hill Hospital and outpatient care and infusion at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, both located in the highly sought-after Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan.  In 2027, the outpatient program will move to the newly built, state-of-the-art Victoria and Lloyd Goldman Pavilion, a 15 story, 200,000 square foot facility located one block from Lenox Hill Hospital.  This new setting will offer boutique, patient-centered care with the latest in clinical, therapeutic and digital innovation.  The Cancer Institute in Manhattan has achieved several national accreditations and designations, including the Commission on Cancer from the American College of Surgeons, the NAPBC and NAPRC designations, and will be welcoming an exciting partnership with START JV, a world renowned incubator for early phase clinical trials, that will be opening a program onsite in the Goldman Pavilion.

Northwell Health Cancer Institute treats more than 19,000 patients with cancer and blood diseases, giving patients access to the services of more than 200 Cancer Institute physicians in more than 25 sub-specialties. The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research is home to Northwell Health’s research and is an epicenter for scientific discovery and innovation, including basic science and clinical research in molecular medicine, genetics, oncology, brain research, mental health, autoimmunity, and bioelectronic medicine. In 2015, Northwell Health and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory began a strategic affiliation to accelerate cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment. This collaboration offers the ability to deliver cancer and hematologic therapeutics to patients throughout the region, while also meeting the comprehensive medical and surgical needs of those with cancer and at risk of the disease.

Duties include: Daily clinical management of inpatient bone marrow/hematologic malignancy patients with an emphasis clinical management of allogeneic & autologous transplant recipients as well as the patients receiving immune effector cell therapy including CAR T-cells, TILS and other immune populations; shared responsibility for on-call coverage; case conferencing with multi-disciplinary teams; coordination of teaching rounds with Fellows and House-staff assigned to the inpatient; fostering collaborative relationships with referring physicians and organizations; cooperation with clinical trial and data management/ registry teams; development and participation in clinical trials; participation in the education of medical students and house staff in accordance with assignments to the department by the Curriculum Committee and Chair.

THE POSITION

The division is recruiting clinical researchers with a focus on contributing to a robust clinical trial portfolio supporting Wilmot Cancer Institute’s patient population and furthering scientific and clinical discovery. This will be achieved through a collaborative spirit of partnership with internal teams, including basic and translational scientists, clinicians and investigators, and other clinical and support staff.   The ideal candidate will be expected to be a trusted colleague, clinician, investigator, and leader, and build productive relationships with teams across Wilmot, URMC, and UR Medicine, faculty, staff, residents, and fellows.  Candidates will need to lead an active clinical practice, supporting clinical trial accruals and contributing to ongoing clinical and translational research, and ideally building relationships across the clinical and basic science departments, funded investigators, clinical trials office.  A competitive salary, generous benefits, and programmatic and research support will be provided.
