The Divisions of Medical Oncology and Hematology are home to academic clinicians as well as clinical and translational researchers who are committed to the tripartite mission of excellence in research, clinical care, and education. The Role

The Northwell Health Cancer Institute and Northwell Health Leadership seek an experienced and proven board-certified physician executive and leader to serve as the System Head of Classical Hematology. Reporting to the Deputy Physician-in-Chief Dr. Richard Carvajal, this leader will be charged with articulating a vision and corresponding plan that fits within the overall Cancer Institute’s strategic plan that will result in being viewed nationally as a leader in clinical care, research, and education. The System Head will be well positioned to build upon a strong research infrastructure to ensure the program is on the precipice of scientific discovery promotion, innovations and leading-edge clinical and translational research. This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. The Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute, primarily located at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, seeks a highly skilled and compassionate physician leader with expertise in Hematology and Cellular Therapy (HSCT and CAR-T). This position offers a Division Chief leadership role in a growing and dynamic Hematology and Cellular Therapy program dedicated to clinical and translational research as well as exceptional patient care.

The Division Chief works with the AHN Cancer Institute Chair and other leaders to develop and implement strategy and processes for patients under the care of the Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy. The Division Chief shall also maintain all current and future standards of care, both inpatient and outpatient as well as accreditations needed to assure service for the region. The Division Chief will maintain the same standards and accreditations for subdivisions of the Cell Processing and Molecular Hematology Laboratory. Practice Description:

Personalized Hematology/Oncology of Wake Forest (PHOWF) was launched in 2012 after completing my fellowship in Hem/Onc in 2001, with a passion & desire to utilize the blueprint of the tumor to determine, based on the science, the best treatment for patients with Stage IV disease. Adding to this passion, with subsequent breakthroughs since 2012 in the science of Oncology with precision medicine, bispecific antibodies, drug-antibody conjugates, immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies, and CAR-T, and CRISPer technologies, there has been a diversity of options to enhance our abilities to provide better molecularly targeted therapies with the hope to one day eliminate cytotoxic therapies, with their plethora of unwanted side effects.

PHOWF struggled to survive initially, perfecting our business model and undergoing three expansions, increasing the size of our infusion center within the same building. We initially added our own CLIA, COLA, OSHA/HIPAA certified laboratory, and within the last year have our own inpatient pharmacy. The program serves a diverse patient population, providing a range of treatment options including stem cell transplantation, BiTE, and CAR-T therapy. This service is 24/7, and we are hiring across multiple (12hr) shifts (daytime, nocturnist, and mixed schedule opportunities are available).

Advanced practice providers work closely with physicians in a shared practice model. APPs provide care for patients throughout the course of their illness and are involved in initial treatment planning and counseling, assessments, supportive care during chemotherapy treatment, and surveillance and follow-up care after completion of treatment. In addition to working collaboratively with physicians, they play an integral role in coordinating care with other subspecialties, including radiation oncology and surgical oncology. The cancer center includes an active cancer clinical trials program and provides a full range of supportive services, including social work, palliative care, nutrition support, genetic counseling, and patient navigation.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join a collaborative and supportive APP/MD team practice that provides care for patients with hematologic diagnoses who are admitted to the hospital due to complications of their malignancy, complications of their treatment, for palliative care, or for chemotherapy. Common cancer diagnoses are lymphoma, leukemia, and MDS. In addition to treating patients with chemotherapy or on clinical trials, the team manages acute medical problems such as neutropenic fever, nausea and vomiting, pain management, and other acute medical diagnoses. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of cancer care including initial diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, management of complications/acute medical issues, and palliative care.

The position is 100% clinical. The typical morning consists of pre-rounding on patients followed by rounds with the attending physician. In the afternoon, the APP carries out the plan of care for patients, consults with other services as indicated, admits and discharges patients, and performs procedures (including bone marrow biopsy). The ideal candidate is motivated, self-directed, compassionate, enthusiastic and committed to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning. There are many opportunities for learning including teaching on rounds, weekly conferences, monthly staff meetings, and clinical care conferences.

Required Qualifications:
• Nurse Practitioner with a Masters of Nursing from an accredited program with current NH license, or eligible for licensure in NH.

OR
• Current (or eligible) certification to practice as a Physician's Assistant in the state of New Hampshire. Academic preparation at the Master's level.

• For NP candidates: Advanced Oncology Nurse or Nurse Practitioner Certification (AOCN or AOCNP)

The Division is home to the only pediatric stem cell transplant, CAR-T, gene therapy, and pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship programs in South Carolina. We also maintain a dynamic portfolio of consortium and industry-related oncology, hematology, and sickle cell clinical trials including gene therapy. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Cancer Service Line Director, as Associate Medical Director, the Division Head (DH) will provide strategic and operational leadership across all Medical Hematology/Oncology functions—clinical care, education, and research. This includes comprehensive oversight within the Henry Ford Medical Group and across the system’s Cancer Service Line. In this role, the DH will play a pivotal part in advancing innovation, quality, and academics, helping to shape and elevate the delivery of cancer care throughout Metro Detroit and beyond.

The dynamic leader who succeeds will be overseeing more than $1 billion of annual GPR ascribed to the division, as well as over 40 full-time academic physicians.  Henry Ford Health, a $13 billion academic health system, is in the midst of massive strategic growth plans including a $3 billion Future of Health: Detroit investment anchored by a new hospital facility, a new state-of-the-art research building (335,000 sq. ft.) on the Detroit campus, and academic partnership with Michigan State University, the primary focus of which is cancer, including planned recruitment of additional 35 cancer research faculty positions over the next 5 years.  As the senior physician leader for medical oncology, the DH will have substantial input in all academic, clinical and operational decisions related to HFH Cancer enterprise.

The Division Head will be a practicing member of the Hematology/Oncology Division and also an accomplished academician, prepared to further grow our strong research portfolio in key areas such as investigator-initiated clinical trials, precision medicine, and population health. The successful candidate will ideally have the training and some experience in developing investigator-initiated clinical trials and interacting with laboratory scientists for translational research. The Division of Hematology and Cellular Therapy of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute seeks a highly skilled and compassionate physician with extensive experience in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of myeloid malignancy, including expertise in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). This position offers a leadership role in a growing and dynamic hematology program dedicated to clinical and translational research and exceptional patient care. The successful candidate will be considered for the directorship of the HSCT program.

Position Summary:

The Physician will provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including but not limited to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This includes overseeing all aspects of patient care, from initial diagnosis and treatment planning to follow-up and supportive care. A significant component of the role involves participation in the alloHSCT program, encompassing pre-transplant evaluation, conditioning regimen selection, transplant procedures, post-transplant management, and the management of complications.

Duties:

• Provide comprehensive medical care to patients with myeloid malignancy, including diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and ongoing management
• Perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating current best practices and clinical trial participation

Akron Children’s Hospital is a teaching hospital with an AGMCE accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program and a medical school affiliation with Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Programs at the Akron Children’s Hospital Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders include hematology, oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a state-funded sickle cell program and regional hemostasis and thrombosis center. Hematology/oncology care is provided at our hospital in Akron, our Beeghly campus in Boardman, Ohio, and three satellite clinics throughout the region. The Hematology/Oncology team is currently comprised of eleven faculty members, seventeen advanced practice providers and fellows.

Clinical & Patient Care:
•Provide expert clinical care in effector immune cell therapy (e.g., CAR-T, TCR-T, NK-cell therapy) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

The DLDCCC, and NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center is affiliated with Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital. The O’Quinn Medical Tower is state-of-the-art 470,000 Sq Ft space which includes radiology services, radiation oncology, bronchoscopy/endoscopy, and an 80 bed infusion center that houses the DLDCCC’s Phase 1 unit. The Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies Program provides comprehensive care for patients with hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, brain tumors, and non-malignant conditions. The Division also has a robust Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program in collaboration with the NCI-designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. The scope of practice includes, but is not limited to, multi-institutional clinical trials, CAR-T and other cellular therapies, gene therapy, and additional innovative clinical protocols. The Division is actively engaged in cutting-edge research supported by the NIH and other funding agencies.

Requirements: 

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

• Provide independent care of pediatric BMT-CT patients on the inpatient hospital service
• Provide independent care of pediatric BMT-CT patients in the outpatient clinic and infusion center
• Communicate with referring physicians regarding shared patients on BMT-CT service
• Lead BMT advance practice providers (APPs: physician assistants and nurse practitioners) in the care of both inpatients and outpatients
• Provide education and supervision to medical students, residents and fellows in the inpatient and outpatient settings

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience in the independent care and management of pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT-CT patients.
• Pediatric BMT-CT subspecialty/fellowship training at a high volume academic medical center is strongly preferred (can substitute for one year of experience listed above).
• Record of sustained independent funding of clinical research or translational/laboratory work, with preference given to candidates who have secured at least one cycle of renewed funding if greater than 20% protected research time is to be included in this position.

We are seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Hematologist/Oncologist for this hospital-employed position that offers an outpatient-focused practice with inpatient consult responsibilities in a busy infusion service. The care team includes five physicians and two nurse practitioners, with a four-day workweek and an average daily census of 15–18 patients, along with approximately two inpatient consults during call. $375,000 - $400,000

The base pay range reflects what Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time.
