Responsibilities:

The Lasker Scholars program supports a small number of exceptional clinical researchers to promote their development as early stage independent investigators. This unique program provides Scholars with five to seven years of support as an independent principal investigator in the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP), followed by up to 3 years of funding at an extramural research institution.  Scholars may also have the opportunity to remain in the IRP rather than leaving for an extramural position, by mutual agreement.

During the IRP (Si2) phase, Lasker Scholars become NIH employees and conduct research at the NIH as tenure-track investigators. Scholars will be offered competitive salaries, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will be provided research space, supported personnel positions, and a research operating budget. In some cases, Lasker Scholars may be able to maintain an adjunct affiliation with their previous institution while working at the NIH.  During the extramural (R00) phase, successful Scholars receive up to $500,000 in direct costs per year for their research program.

Mayo Clinic is seeking a board certified / board eligible pediatric hematologist to join our growing team!  Mayo Clinic is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a federally designated Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center with 11 pediatric hematologist/oncologists, nine nurse practitioners, and eight specialty nurses.   While the division provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions, this role is specifically focused on non-malignant, classical pediatric hematology.

Our non-malignant hematology program provides multidisciplinary, longitudinal care for children with inherited and acquired blood disorders, with particular strengths in bleeding. and clotting, and bone marrow failure disorders. As a Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, we deliver integrated care for patients with hemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders, including access to a specialized lab for state-of-the-art testing, specialized nursing, physical therapy, social work, and care coordination services. In addition, our Vascular Malformation Clinic brings together hematology, interventional radiology, surgery, genetics, dermatology, and other specialties to provide coordinated evaluation and management of complex vascular anomalies.

This position is dedicated to the outpatient and inpatient care of children with non-malignant hematologic conditions within a highly collaborative practice. All physicians in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology share responsibility for the inpatient care of children with blood disorders, cancer, and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at Mayo Clinic Hospital, while maintaining defined areas of clinical focus. The successful candidate will also contribute to the division’s educational mission through teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. The Division Chief shall also maintain all current and future standards of care, both inpatient and outpatient as well as accreditations needed to assure service for the region. The Division Chief will maintain the same standards and accreditations for subdivisions of the Cell Processing and Molecular Hematology Laboratory. The Division Chief will assume responsibilities for research and development within the division and connect these activities to the larger goals of the AHN Cancer Center. This recruitment supports the development of a brand-new Transplant/Cellular Therapy program within the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which provides pediatric hematology/oncology care and offers advanced therapies including stem cell transplantation. The ideal candidate will be an excellent clinician and team player with strong organizational and leadership skills, a growth mindset, and a commitment to building high-reliability systems of care. 

Scope note: This role will focus on HCT and non-gene-modified cellular therapy services; gene therapies and genetically modified cellular products are not included in the initial program scope.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include appointment as the Transplant/Cellular Therapy (HCT) Program Director with a vision for growth and program maturity. The clinical role includes providing comprehensive care to transplant/cellular therapy patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. Inpatient attending time includes night and weekend call/rounds in collaboration with division and hospital coverage models as the program launches and scales. 

A core expectation of this role is to help build the new program infrastructure, including clinical pathways, policies and standard operating procedures, and a quality management framework aligned with recognized HCT standards (e.g., FACT-JACIE expectations for quality-focused clinical and laboratory practice across the continuum of cellular therapy). The Program Director will also partner with operational and data teams to establish outcomes tracking and reporting workflows consistent with transplant registry participation and best practices.

Education and supervision of trainees (residents, medical students, and advanced practice practitioners) is required, supported by the Nemours–UCF academic environment. The physician will perform procedures (e.g., bone marrow aspirate/biopsy, lumbar puncture) as clinically indicated and will participate in divisional educational and scholarly activities, including quality improvement and clinical research efforts appropriate to a developing transplant program. The Program Director will help represent the division and program in the community and nationally through referral outreach, program communications, and collaborative partnerships. 

Qualifications

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school

• Board certified or board eligible in Hematology/Oncology

• Valid state medical license & DEA

Medical Technologist I assists in training of laboratory personnel, new employees, medical residents and students in the principles and techniques of medical technology.

The Hematology Laboratory has the following discipline-specific areas:

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs moderately and highly complex tests by various analyzers in the Laboratory and/or by manual methods on various specimen sources such as blood, urine, body fluids, stool, etc. using established procedures and policies.
• Reviews test results before reporting using technical and scientific knowledge to recognize and verify result validity and clinical relevance.
• Follows laboratory established procedures and policies, and notify approved care givers of critical results following compliance and HIPPA standards.
• Performs established quality assurance procedures (quality control testing, instrument function checks and calibrations) maintains appropriate documentation and reports irregularities to supervisor.
• Operates, troubleshoots, and resolves instrument’s technical problems and documents corrective action whenever possible.
• Responds appropriately to error flags for critical results, delta checks, required dilutions, and result patterns. Notifies physician(s) of life threatening results.
• Assesses accuracy and validity of obtained test results by applying knowledge of relevant scientific principles, recognizes changes that are critical to patient care, identifies probable causes for irregular and atypical findings.
• Receives a wide variety of patient specimens arriving at the laboratory for testing. Performs the procedures necessary to prepare specimens for testing or referral to other laboratories.
• Maintains a neat, orderly and safe working environment in the laboratory while adhering to all guidelines of OHSA's Blood borne Pathogens Control Act.
• Adheres to Costumer service guidance, interacts with physicians, patients, staff, visitors and customers via telephone conversations and in person in a professional and helpful manner.
• Participates in CAP proficiency testing. Performs periodic proficiency (internal and external) testing, participates in data collection and monitoring of quality assurance monitors as determined by department and section policy. Completes Quality Assurance Reports. Participates in the laboratory Continuing Education (CE) program annually.
• Performs resulting, verification, confirming, and other LIS laboratory related functions on patients results through the UI Hospital LIS and automation middleware information system including: instruments checks, status reports, and basic maintenance and recovery functions.
• Assists in training of laboratory personnel, new employees, medical residents and students in the principles and techniques of medical technology.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Subpart M, Section 493.1489.

The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing key missions within the MGB Division of Transfusion Medicine and will hold primary clinical duties at one or both academic medical centers (AMCs).

The MGB Division of Transfusion Medicine encompasses an FDA-licensed donor center, therapeutic apheresis, an outpatient transfusion/infusion clinic, a transfusion service, and progenitor cell collection and processing. The faculty member will assume leadership roles within the Division and serve as one of several Medical Directors responsible for a designated area of Transfusion Medicine that aligns with their expertise and interests. While on clinical service, all faculty members are responsible for providing direct patient care and participating in consults. Throughout all service activities, faculty members in the Transfusion Medicine division collaborate closely with clinical colleagues in bone marrow and solid organ transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, cardiac surgery, trauma and critical care, neurology, and pediatrics. As members of the MGB Division of Transfusion Medicine, our faculty work closely with and share service and teaching responsibilities with all other transfusion medicine faculty throughout the MGB network. We are particularly interested in physicians with several years of experience beyond fellowship who have established clinical expertise in hematologic malignancies and a strong interest in advancing cellular therapy programs. This opportunity offers the ability to contribute to an innovative program focused on CAR-T therapy, bispecific antibodies, clinical trials, and the multidisciplinary care of patients with complex blood cancers.

Clinical Practice and Location

The physician’s primary clinical practice will be based at Duke Cancer Center Raleigh, a comprehensive, community-based cancer center serving patients throughout Raleigh, Cary, Wake County, and the surrounding region. The center provides coordinated hematology and oncology care, outpatient infusion services, advanced cancer treatments, clinical trial access, pharmacy services, and multidisciplinary support in one convenient location.

The primary patient population will include adults with hematologic malignancies who require longitudinal subspecialty care, including patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukemia, and other blood cancers. The physician will evaluate and manage patients who may benefit from CAR-T therapy, bispecific antibodies, cellular immunotherapy, or other advanced treatment approaches. Responsibilities may include treatment consultation, patient selection, pre-treatment evaluation, longitudinal disease management, management of therapy-related complications, and post-cellular therapy follow-up.

This role will help expand access to advanced hematologic malignancy care for patients in Wake County while maintaining close integration with the Duke Blood Cancer Center and cellular therapy program at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Patients requiring specialized cellular therapy procedures, complex inpatient care, transplantation, or other tertiary-level services will have seamless access to Duke’s main academic campus.

The faculty member may participate in clinical care, research, teaching, multidisciplinary conferences, and other academic activities at Duke University Medical Center as programmatic and patient-care needs warrant.

Academic and Programmatic Opportunities

The position supports Duke’s academic mission through participation in clinical trials, scholarly activity, program development, quality initiatives, and the education of medical students, residents, hematology/oncology fellows, and advanced practice providers.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with faculty and multidisciplinary teams across cellular therapy, transplantation, lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, pharmacy, research, nursing, and advanced practice. The physician will also help strengthen referral relationships with community oncologists and regional healthcare partners while supporting the continued growth of Duke’s hematologic malignancy and cellular therapy presence across Wake County. The division has a faculty of six non-malignant adult hematologists with international reputations as clinicians and clinician-scientists. We have programs in Hemostasis, Thrombosis, Hereditary and Acquired Anemias, abnormalities of Heme and Iron Metabolism, and Myeloproliferative Disorders. The division has a combined fellowship program with Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine that attracts very strong fellows.

Due to the continued growth of these clinical programs, the new faculty member's clinical responsibilities will focus primarily on non-malignant hematologic disorders primarily in the out-patient settings primarily at Sugar House Health Center and other University of Health locations.

Hematology and Cellular Therapy Hospitalist

The hospitalist serves as the attending physician for the inpatient hematology and cellular therapy service, generally working alternating one-week blocks. Hematologist — Hemophilia and Thrombosis

The Dartmouth Cancer Center Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center is seeking a collaborative, full-time hematologist with expertise or interest in inherited and acquired bleeding and clotting disorders.

The Center is one of three federally funded Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Centers in northern New England and includes the region’s only specialized coagulation laboratory. The physician will provide outpatient and inpatient consultation while working closely with nursing, advanced practice providers, physical therapy, social work, and other clinical professionals.

Responsibilities include:

• Evaluating and treating patients with bleeding and clotting disorders
• Providing outpatient consultations and inpatient consultative care

The Director will work collaboratively with the Cancer Center Director and Chair of Medicine to enhance the clinical, educational and research missions of the Division and the multispecialty Cancer Center. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the strategic initiative of membership in the Case Western University Comprehensive Cancer Center.

 

The Division of Hematology and Oncology has established clinical expertise in the treatment of hematologic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and breast malignancies and is committed to expanding programs across all oncologic subspecialties. Members of the Division collaborate closely with specialists across the Cancer Center including experts in surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology, and radiation oncology to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer care. The Cancer Center supports this collaborative approach through12 subspecialty multi-disciplinary tumor boards and maintains accreditation from several nationally recognized organizations including the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.

 

Faculty are engaged in the MHMC internal medicine residency and hematology / oncology fellowship programs. The fellows cover the inpatient hematology and oncology consultation service for the MHMC hospital. The consult service expertise can also be requested by the separate inpatient cancer unit run by hospitalists.

 

Clinical research is an integral component of the Division and the MetroHealth Cancer Center. After holding the ECOG Cooperative Group grant at MetroHealth for 38 years, the Division and the Cancer Center are full partners (Lead Academic Participating Site) in the Case Western Reserve University National Clinical Trials Network grant. With the assistance of the MHMC oncology research team, all Division members are expected to enroll their patients in NCI, pharmaceutical-sponsored, and investigator-initiated studies.  The Division is closely aligned with the MHMC’s basic science driven Division of Cancer Biology and the Gene and Cellular Therapy Institute.

 

Specific Responsibilities  

• The Director will be a practicing member of the Hematology and Oncology Medicine Division, leading by providing outstanding clinical care and service to patients and referring providers, and promoting clinical trial enrollment.

• Establish a faculty development plan that identifies faculty sub-specialty interests, strengths and capabilities that can lead to successful program development and professional growth 

• Work on all aspects of faculty recruitment, and retention 

• Participate in the Department of Medicine’s leadership team ensuring attainment of the department’s goals and objectives 

• Leadership of the academic enterprise

Candidate Qualifications

The Foley Family Leukemia Fellowship is an Advanced Fellowship in Leukemia at the Dana-
Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) designed to provide comprehensive clinical training and research opportunities in leukemia. The fellowship is ideal for a physician planning a career that includes clinical and/or translational research in leukemia in an academic setting. 


The Leukemia Fellowship training focuses on the clinical management and study of acute leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative neoplasms. The program's primary aim is to prepare qualified individuals for careers focused on caring for individuals with leukemia and conducting transformative clinical and/or translational research. The Fellow will be appointed a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.


At the time of entry into the program, fellows must have already completed training in Medical Oncology (minimum 2 years), or Hematology (minimum 2 years), or Hematology/Oncology (minimum 3 years) and be eligible for a limited or full medical license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC) of Fred Hutch is seeking a candidate with a lab-based program focused on tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy with a strong vision/path toward clinical translation. Candidates of all academic ranks—Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor with a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, or equivalent—are encouraged to apply.

 

The IIRC is a multi-disciplinary center that brings together 83 faculty members in basic, translational, and clinical research to advance immunotherapy for disease. The IIRC also encompasses clinical programs to deliver cell and gene therapies as well as first-in-human immunotherapeutics. The center is at the forefront of translating laboratory discoveries into the clinic.

 

The successful candidate will have expertise in cancer immunology and be engaged in laboratory-based research that could enable next generation therapies. Examples include but are not limited to cellular therapies, immune checkpoints, tumor microenvironment, and non-viral gene editing. The selected individual will foster an environment of collaboration and productivity in cancer immunotherapy. Candidates that demonstrate a track record of peer-reviewed publications in the cancer immunology field and success in obtaining extramural funding will be prioritized.

This position will have a 2/8th appointment with the VA to provide clinical care for malignant hematology cases (Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) with and without fellows in clinic, take 3 weekend calls a year with fellows, and be able to supervise fellows dealing with chemotherapy unit issues.

This position will work within the USF Hemophilia Treatment Center, specializing in diagnosis, treatment, and management of bleeding disorders. Additionally, this position will have an opportunity to engage in FDA-approved gene therapy. Our center has its own 340B program that supports our wide range of patient care activities and staff, including RNs, NPs, Physical Therapists, social workers, and administrative staff. We have our own clinical research team that supports our clinical research activities.    

Additional academic responsibilities may include advising and mentoring students in the development of scholarly projects; assessing, reviewing, and evaluating student educational activities and progress; and serving on university-wide, medical school, and/or departmental committees.

Prefer: 1-3 years of physician experience with benign hematology. Previous experience in an academic medical center and proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research preferred. Extensive thrombosis experience is a plus as we are evolving our activities into a hemostasis/thrombosis center. Applicants with a track record in clinical or basic research in hemostasis or thrombosis are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Clinical-The candidate will practice in an outpatient clinic with some inpatient consults treating patients. Lead outreach efforts to improve outcomes in at risk patients. Additionally, assume a role of liaison for health care decisions between the patients and the health care providers in the community, including the primary care physicians, internists, dentists, and other providers. Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion, patient follow-up, etc.
• Teaching-Education and Training of medical students, residents, and fellows who rotate through the Hematology and Medical Oncology clinical service. Position may also do precepting medical students in an ambulatory clerkship.   
• Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. 
• Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
• Responsible for academic advising and related activities. 
• May represent the university, college/school, or department.
