The Department of Pediatrics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans is seeking an accomplished academic clinician, educator, or investigator to assume the dual roles of Section Head of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology for the LSU Department of Pediatrics and Service Line Chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. The successful candidate will join the current eight-member Section of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at LSU and oversee the current fifteen provider Service Line at Children’s Hospital. The ideal candidate is an experienced academic physician with excellence in clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity. Experience in administrative leadership and mentoring junior faculty is highly desirable. Academic rank will be determined by the candidate’s credentials and experience. Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, research, and clinical care. Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology is required.

About the Employer

The section boasts an ACGME accredited fellowship training program. Clinical programs exist in all areas of pediatric hematology-oncology to include oncology, sickle cell, bleeding disorders, stem cell transplant and cellular therapy and late effects of childhood cancer program. The Children’s Oncology Group activities of the section are the largest and most active in Louisiana. Multiple opportunities exist to collaborate with basic, clinical, and translational research colleagues in the LSU School of Medicine and affiliated groups. Pediatric clinical activities are centered at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, the area’s only freestanding Children’s Hospital. The current 250+ bed facility is completing a $300+ million expansion project. As part of the expansion project, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders was unified into one contiguous inpatient and outpatient care space opening in May of 2021. The LSU HSC New Orleans Department of Pediatrics boasts 87 full time faculty members and approximately 100 trainees.
