Select individuals trained in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology are now being considered for a one-year clinical Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant /Cellular
Therapy (BMT) Fellowship. The fellowship that will provide an in-depth exposure to patients with various malignant and non-malignant diseases.
The University of Minnesota Pediatric BMT Fellowship provides Board Eligible or Board Certified Pediatric Hematologists/Oncologists with clinical and research training experience of exceptional breadth and depth. Our internationally-recognized Pediatric BMT Fellowship serves children from throughout the United States and abroad requiring allogeneic hematopoietic stem cells for high-risk hematopoietic malignancies, primary immune deficiencies, acquired and inherited marrow failures, metabolic disorders, life-threatening forms of epidermolysis bullosa, autologous blood stem cell rescue following high-dose chemotherapy for high-risk solid tumors, cellular therapy for leukemia and solid tumors and gene therapy for a variety of non-malignant disease. Patients are treated in our state of the art 24-bed dedicated inpatient unit (+4 additional ICU beds) and outpatient clinic/infusion center. The fellow will gain expertise in determining patient eligibility, assigning the ideal treatment plan, selecting the most appropriate graft source and managing common peri- and post-transplant complications in both the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Close collaboration with 15 faculty in Pediatric BMT who have with diverse clinical, translational and basic research interests, high patient volumes, exposure to novel cell- and immune-based therapeutic strategies, and a close collaboration with an internationally-recognized adult BMT center will prepare the fellow for a successful career in the field. Our one-year program is designed to provide enough structure to ensure an incomparable, well-rounded training experience while allowing for flexibility to address the fellow’s specific goals.
