Postdoctoral fellow positions are immediately available from Dr. Peng Ji’s laboratory in the Department of Pathology at Northwestern University. Applicants with background in molecular and cellular biology who are interested in blood cell development, the pathogenesis of myeloid neoplasms, and translational medical research are encouraged to apply. The laboratory is located at Northwestern University Chicago campus in downtown Chicago. The research in the Ji laboratory focuses on the studies of normal hematopoiesis and myeloid malignancies. Major research areas include: 1) Studies of mDia formin proteins in homing and migration of hematopoietic stem cells, as well as the role of mDia1 in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes and transformation to acute leukemia. 2) Mechanistic studies of chromatin condensation during erythropoiesis under steady state and stress/disease conditions. 3) The role of Pleckstrin-2 (Plek2) in normal erythropoiesis and red cell-related diseases, including myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The lab uses molecular and cell biology techniques and mouse genetics in many of these studies. The competitive candidate will have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, or other relevant field; be able to undertake full-time research; have a solid record of independent research; and have working knowledge of relevant wet lab techniques. Background using mouse models is preferred. Candidates with a strong interest in hematology research and associated background will be given particular attention.
