Sickle Cell Disease Cognitive, Social and Behavioral Research Scientist The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a junior or mid-career behavioral research scientist to join a leading multidisciplinary program in translational, clinical, and implementation science in sickle cell disease. The program has attracted >$5 million in federal, foundation, and industry funding in the past 5 years, and includes transplantation and gene therapy. Incumbent will collaborate with and be mentored by 2 physicians, 3 Nurse Practitioners, and a staff of professionals conducting weekly case management rounds a including social workers and community health workers in the Adult Sickle Cell Medical Home, as well as 3 Physicians, a Physician's assistant, and a staff of allied health professionals in the Pediatric Sickle Cell Program. Additional collaborators with a focus on SCD are in the schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, and the Department of Psychology. Incumbent will be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor, with 70% protected time for cognitive, social, and behavioral research. Expected clinical psychology services will be delivered only to sickle cell patients, and will include participation in weekly rounds. Qualifications: Required - PHD or equivalent degree. Demonstrated postdoctoral research training. Credentials to deliver clinical psychology counseling and therapy. Commitment to a career in sickle cell research. Experience working with diverse and disenfranchised communities. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
