The Division of Hematology Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a full-time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank Hematology and Oncology. Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in direct clinical care, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, direct clinical care, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.
The incumbent will care for patients with hematological and oncologic diseases with a focus on, but not exclusively, breast cancer. Responsibilities include direct inpatient and outpatient clinical care, teaching medical students, residents and fellows, and university/public service. Depending on the faculty series (Clinical X versus HSCP), there will be variable effort towards scholarly activity which may include clinical and translational research. Demonstrated aptitude and/or potential for excellence in these domains is required.
Candidates must have completed a fellowship in medical oncology (board-certified or -eligible at the time of appointment) (hematology desirable but not required) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of California. Experience in and the ability to teach medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as experience caring for Hematology/Oncology patients, is required. The candidate must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of California. Experience in and the ability to teach medical students, residents, and fellows; the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a large team; and the ability and experience to participate in scholarly work and/or clinical and translational research are required. For the
Clinical X series, a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is required. Evidence of
success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials is highly desirable.
The division includes 38 clinical and research faculty, five associate physicians; 13 fellows; 11 advanced practice providers; and numerous administrative, financial and research staff. The division operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division is a major component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in the national cancer clinical trials cooperative groups. In 2026, the SWOG Operations Office will move to UC Davis. The division research portfolio is particularly broad and spans laboratory-based early translation to population sciences and health outcome disparities and has consistently the most extramural funding of any division in the Department of Internal Medicine. The fellowship program has expanded and developed career pathways built on our tradition of producing outstanding clinicians to launch more fellows into academic careers. The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and has a Clinical and Translational Science Awards hub since 2006. UC Davis Health has an expanding clinical footprint in the region and cancer care is one of the pillars of the clinical strategic plan.
