Medical Director, Bone Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapy Program

Cooper University Health Care and MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Health invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Director, Blood & Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program.

Founded in 1887, Cooper University Health Care has grown from a 30-bed community hospital into South Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive academic health system, anchored by a 635-bed Level I Trauma Center. Through its transformative affiliation with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2013 - ranked the nation’s #1 cancer center by U.S. News & World Report for 2025–2026 - MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper brings world-class oncology expertise to a region deeply rooted in community-based care.

Following the distinguished tenure of its founding Director, Roger K. Strair, MD, PhD, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper seeks a nationally recognized physician–scientist to lead its Blood & Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program into its next phase of growth. Built on a strong clinical and academic foundation aligned with the nation’s top-ranked cancer program, the program includes established autologous transplantation, active CAR-T therapy, tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapies, and a growing allogeneic transplant program.

Reporting within a collaborative academic and health system leadership structure, the Director will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and serve as a visionary builder—shaping strategy, expanding clinical research, recruiting outstanding faculty, and advancing innovative cellular therapy platforms. Key priorities include scaling clinical volume across transplant and immune-based therapies; progressing toward FACT accreditation; developing an on-site cell therapy laboratory with cryopreservation capabilities; and building the infrastructure required for a high-volume, high-acuity, research-intensive program.

As the only destination transplant and cellular therapy program serving Southern New Jersey’s seven counties, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is uniquely positioned to expand access to advanced therapies for a diverse and historically underserved population. Supported by sustained institutional investment and a deeply engaged multidisciplinary team, the new Director will define the program’s academic identity, elevate its national profile, and position the Center as a premier regional and national hub for transplant and cellular therapy innovation.

Qualified candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), be board-certified in Hematology/Medical Oncology, and be eligible for appointment at the Professor level at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Candidates must also be eligible for medical licensure in New Jersey and demonstrate a record of progressive leadership, scholarly accomplishment, and national recognition within academic hematologic malignancies and/or cellular therapy.
