The Haubner Lab in the Columbia Initiative in Cell Engineering and Therapy (CICET) seeks a highly motivated Staff Associate I to support research related to next-generation chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies in myeloid malignancies including acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

This position will focus primarily on CAR T cell studies in murine models. Ideal candidates are well-versed in animal procedures including tail-vein injections, in vivo bioluminescence imaging, and tissue harvesting. Candidates with additional experience in basic molecular and cell biology protocols, flow cytometry, as well as general lab management, are preferred.

This position will directly report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Haubner, and will work in an ambitious and collaborative research environment including CICET and other initiatives at Columbia University Irving Mecical Center (CUIMC).

Responsibilities

  • Perform mouse procedures related to xenograft and syngeneic mouse models
  • Infuse T cells and hematopoietic cells, establish tumors (cell lines and PDX) by IV or IP administration
  • Perform survival bone marrow aspirate and peripheral bleeding procedures for longitudinal sample collections
  • Perform regular measurement of cell engraftment, persistence and tumor burden by flow cytometry and/or bioluminescence imaging
  • Extract genomic DNA or RNA, or prepare retrieved tissues for multi-parameter flow cytometry
  • Respond to ICM (Institute of Comparative Medicine) for any mouse health checks
  • Monitor mouse health and survival
  • Order mice and serve as the lab liaison for the completing of MTA (Materials Transfer Agreements) when needed
  • Perform daily lab activities and assist lab members with cell infusions or cell retrieval
  • Manage and update protocols used in various animal models
  • Oversee expenses related to animal purchase, husbandry and housing costs
  • Order lab supplies and keep inventory of stocks
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and 4 years' experience preferred

Preferred qualifications

  • At least 1.5 years of professional lab and animal work experience
  • Research experience in a biology lab – wet lab experience
  • Well-versed in molecular biology and basic laboratory techniques
  • Experience in mouse handling
  • Ability to independently perform animal procedures including tail-vein, intraperitoneal and retroorbital injections, in vivo bioluminescence imaging, survival bone marrow aspirates, peripheral bleeding
  • Experience with multi-parameter flow cytometry
  • Experience with lab management/ordering/inventory
  • Experience in basic histological procedures (i.e. immunohistochemistry) is preferred but not essential
  • Proficiency at performing complicated experiments in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed electronic laboratory record.
  • Ability to set up and conduct experiments or activities according to established protocols

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and a strong interest in biological sciences

    • Laboratory animals
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Must successfully complete applicable systems training requirements

 

Salary Range : 64,350 - $70,000
