The Adult Sickle Cell Program at Atrium Health/Levine Cancer Institute is a comprehensive, patient-centered program that works collaboratively to improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with SCD. Guided by a mission to deliver culturally sensitive and coordinated care, the program offers hematological services, psychosocial support, and robust education and outreach. The program has integrated social work, care management, pharmacy, and mental health services to optimize care.  
 
In 2025, the SCD program expanded from one to two clinical sites. The program has developed individualized emergency department care plans, expanded education across the health center, increased access to disease-modifying therapies, advocacy within the local, state, and national community, and active participation in multiple clinical trials. The program has a robust relationship with our local community-based organizations and has a collaborative patient and community engagement through our SCD Community Advisory Board.  We are a recognized center for the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers and a site for the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative.  
 
The Division of Hematology is seeking a board- eligible/certified Hematologist with special interest in Sickle Cell Disease to join its Section of Classical Hematology at the level of Assistant Professor or above. The SCD program is committed to providing outstanding patient care, through innovative research trials with a strong focus on lifelong care (in collaboration with Levine Children’s Hospital), to patients with SCD. 
 
Highlights
• This position is based in Charlotte and will report to the Sickle Cell Enterprise Leader and the Division Chief of Hematology
• The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, to manage patients with SCD. 
• This role is 70% clinical, with three full clinic days per week, seeing approximately 10–12 patients per day. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with SCD in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including clinic nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), psychologists, and care coordinators. There is an opportunity to split time between SCD and other areas of classical hematology 
• Inpatient responsibilities include attending the hematology consultation service at Carolinas Medical Center. This rotation currently includes 10 hematologists. The hematology consultation service includes dedicated advanced practice providers and a hematology oncology fellow. 
• As a member of this section, the candidate is expected to participate in clinical research through developing, conducting or supporting investigator initiated, or pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials.  
• Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of fellows, residents and medical students during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, in concert with the educational programs of the Department.

This position requires adult hematology and oncology OR adult hematology fellowship.

The division also emphasizes clinical and research mentorship for junior faculty, hematology oncology fellows and medicine residents.
