The University of California Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC), the Department of Internal Medicine and the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UC Davis School of Medicine, are recruiting for a full-time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X (Clinician-Investigator) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor (Clinician-Educator) series and at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in Hematology and Oncology. This position would be a board-certified clinical trialist and would serve as the Director of the Early Phase Clinical Trials Program at UCDCCC. For the Clinical X appointment, the applicant must have the ability to develop and implement investigator-initiated research, obtain extramural funding, and conduct collaborative science as a team member and leader. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.
The incumbent will be responsible for the development and growth of UCDCCC’s early phase clinical trials portfolio for oncology indications. We seek an enthusiastic and collaborative individual who will expand an already robust portfolio of early-phase cancer clinical trials, leveraging UCDCCC's status as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI National Clinical Trials Network Lead Academic Participating Site, an NCI Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) site, and a member of the University of California Cancer Consortium.
A generous start-up package including 50% protected research time and access to state-of-the-art molecular pharmacology, biostatistics, mouse biology, in vivo translational imaging, and biorepository shared resources will be provided. In addition to full Membership in the UCDCCC, a faculty appointment will be provided in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, at a rank commensurate with individual academic achievement.
This position will report to the UCDCCC Associate Director for Clinical Research, with dotted line reports to the Medical Director of the Office of Clinical Research (OCR) and the Associate Director for Translational Research; and the UCD School of Medicine Vice Dean for Research. The incumbent will maintain regular communication with UCDCCC leadership (Director, Associate Directors, Physician-in-Chief), School of Medicine leadership (Vice Deans, Clinical and Translational Science Center, and clinical Chairs), and other key stakeholders (e.g., UCDCCC Internal Advisory Committee, External Advisory Committee, Scientific Council, Community Advisory Board, and the Sacramento City Wide Oncology Phase I Program [SCOPE] Board).
The division has twenty-six faculty, four staff physicians, twelve fellows, thirteen nurse practitioners, more than fifty staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division is a major component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics with an Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) grant and as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) with the NCI National Clinical Trials Network. The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). The division research portfolio is particularly broad and spans laboratory-based early translation to population sciences and health disparities. The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and one of the inaugural Clinical and Translational Award sites. The University of California, Davis is one of the top public research universities in the nation.
Sacramento has an ascendant and vibrant downtown, and the region has abundant outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities.
