Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Scientist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
Job Duties

Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration. As a Clinician-Scientist, the successful candidate will be expected to spend at least 50% of their time dedicated to an independent, innovative basic or translational research program in malignant or pre-malignant hematological disorders (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, bone marrow failure, clonal hematopoiesis). The research program is expected to attract competitive extramural funding (e.g., Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé) and lead to publications in high-impact journals and collaborations with other provincial, national and international centers. The successful candidate should possess a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals in the field of hematology or oncology, demonstrated potential for securing independent research funding, and experience in basic or translational research. Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.
Clinical duties will be based at the Jewish General Hospital. In addition to developing a research program, the applicant is expected to evaluate and treat patients referred to the hematology service in the out-patient and hospital settings. The number of weeks of clinical service depends on the applicant’s career stage. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
All McGill faculty members are also expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
• Hold an MD degree, and hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
• Have completed specialty training in Hematology;
• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Hematology;
• Hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
• Be a strong contender to obtain funding from the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS);
• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
