About the Employer

One of the leading pediatric cancer facilities on the West Coast, and the only provider of pediatric hematology and oncology services between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist to join the growing practice in Madera, California. Over seven decades ago, five young mothers imagined building a hospital just for kids in California’s Central Valley.  The mothers’ dream has not only expanded into a 358-bed free-standing children’s hospital with nationally recognized physicians and programs, it is now an entire healthcare network that serves more than 1.3 million children in the heart of California.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, including an outpatient unit and 36-bed inpatient unit, provides the breadth of specialized services and depth of experience to treat the most common to the rarest pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.  With state-of-the-art treatment protocols and clinical trials, the team saw more than 159 newly diagnosed oncology cases with 15,660 patient visits (6,156 Hematology and 9,504 Oncology) and 4,319 unique patients (2,825 Hematology and 1,512 Oncology) in the 2024 fiscal year.  Because of the growth in both hematology and oncology, the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is now staffed with six nurse practitioners and thirteen board-certified pediatric hematologists and oncologists who have been trained at top institutions around the world.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center has been ranking above the 95th percentile for the number of patients enrolled Children’s Oncology Group clinical trials for several years and is one of only 141 federally funded hemophilia treatment centers in the country. Through enhanced therapies and supportive care, Valley Children’s cancer cure rates average 85%.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center incorporates comprehensive programs in Leukemia/Lymphoma, Solid Tumors, Neuro-Oncology, Histiocytic Disorders and Childhood Cancer Survivorship. Valley Children's is consistently one of the top enrolling sites for the Centers for Disease Control and Preservation Community Counts Hemophilia Project in the Western States, Region IX. Valley Children’s has also received membership by invitation to the Pacific Sickle Cell Research Consortium and the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative.

The Valley Children’s network includes five specialty care centers in Visalia, Modesto, Merced, Bakersfield and Sacramento, and maintains a pediatric residency program and partnership with Stanford Children’s Health.  Hematology physicians see patients at the Bakersfield and Modesto specialty care centers and provide telemedicine support for the specialty care centers in Modesto and Bakersfield to improve access to high-quality care in the Central Valley.
