The Division of Hematology & Oncology in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) seeks classical hematologists interested in systems-based hematology. ASH defines a systems-based hematologist as a hematologist who works across an organization to ensure quality, cost-effective, and evidence-based hematology care.

At VUMC, we believe in the power of collaboration. We lead nationally in the implementation and advancement of systems-based hematology and in the use of AI to predict diseases and outcomes. We need hematologists who want to be part of a team that develops creative and innovative solutions to manage hematology diagnoses. You can work across the organization and collaborate with quality, informatics, pharmacy, and the laboratory. We need someone interested in bleeding disorders and bleeding risk concerning surgery and other procedures. 

We currently have an 8-member classical hematology team. Academic appointments are available at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor levels. The successful candidate will participate in the department's educational programs, which include teaching services, training, preceptorships, mentoring students, house staff, and fellows in the inpatient and outpatient settings.  

The Division of Hematology & Oncology collaborates extensively with the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital to facilitate integrated hemophilia and sickle cell disease programs. The benign hematology program houses a robust Hemophilia Treatment Center, serving over 800 patients in the Southeast region, and the Vanderbilt Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease.

We provide consultative service to a 1,741-bed hospital and various integrated clinic arenas. The classical hematology program is supported by a clinical trials support team and is home to various federally and industry-supported studies. We are strongly committed to bringing together the best scientists and clinicians to treat hematology diagnoses through pioneering research, compassionate care, prevention, and outreach.

We are highly committed to training and mentorship, hosting numerous training programs for fellows and junior faculty members, and mentorship and career development programming that spans the faculty spectrum.
