The Northwell Health Cancer Institute, with the support of Northwell Health Executive Leadership, invites applications and nominations for the System Head, Classical Hematology at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. Working closely with the System Chief Hematologic Malignancies and the Deputy Physician in Chief of Medical Oncology, this leader will advance the clinical, research, and teaching mission of classical hematology to ensure an integrated and unified approach to patient care throughout an expansive network spanning New York City, Long Island and Westchester County. Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell

Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research

The Division of Medical Oncology and The Division of Hematology

The Divisions of Medical Oncology and Hematology are home to academic clinicians as well as clinical and translational researchers who are committed to the tripartite mission of excellence in research, clinical care, and education. The Divisions’ full-time oncologists and hematologists collaborate with cancer specialists in surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, as well as supportive and palliative care, to provide appropriate, personalized cancer treatment plans. The clinical program continues to grow through the work of extremely productive physicians who are recognized leaders in their fields. Their commitment to patient-centered care is demonstrated by consistently achieving high Press Ganey scores from their patients.

The physicians of the Divisions of Medical Oncology and Hematology are organized in multidisciplinary disease management teams. There are currently ten active practice sites including:

Faculty participate in national federal and pharmaceutical clinical studies, ranging from fundamental cellular investigations to the latest cutting-edge translational and clinical research. Our expert medical oncologists and hematologists are leaders in emerging chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments as well as hormonal and biological therapies. They collaborate with translational researchers at Northwell’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. As educators, they train the next generation of cancer specialists through academic activities at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and through medical residency and Hematology/Medical Oncology subspecialty fellowship training programs.

The Role

The Northwell Health Cancer Institute and Northwell Health Leadership seek an experienced and proven board-certified physician executive and leader to serve as the System Head of Classical Hematology. Reporting to the Deputy Physician-in-Chief Dr. Richard Carvajal, this leader will be charged with articulating a vision and corresponding plan that fits within the overall Cancer Institute’s strategic plan that will result in being viewed nationally as a leader in clinical care, research, and education. The System Head will be well positioned to build upon a strong research infrastructure to ensure the program is on the precipice of scientific discovery promotion, innovations and leading-edge clinical and translational research. The System Head will drive faculty engagement overseeing professional development, performance improvement, quality assurance and participation in clinical research in order to meet the clinical and translational research goals and objectives of the health system and safeguarding an integrated and unified approach to patient care across New York City, Long Island and Westchester County.

In addition, the System Head, Classical Hematology will have an academic appointment at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Candidate Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:

Education and Experience

• M.D. Degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine.
• Board certification in hematology.
• Experience as a department or division head, preferably in a major medical center or health system.
• Experience teaching residents and medical students.
• Nationally recognized clinical, basic and/or translational research program with an established record of publication in high impact journals.
• Outstanding communication and management skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with medical staff, hospital management, and staff.
• Active participation in relevant national societies.
